Tips for Surviving College Life and Relationships
October 24, 2011 @ 11:14:23 AM EST

For many students, seeing the words college and life together spell one thing – freedom. Well, starting your life in college can be a little strange but one certain thing about college life is that sorting your finances first will give you a smooth academic life. By sorting your finances, I mean paying for the essentials first before thinking of enjoyment. In addition, other aspects like meeting new people and college dating culture; which equals ‘hooking up’ is very hard as there are certain things that can make dating in college work or simply crumble.

If you are getting the jitters about college life, worry not as dating in college is not hellish. A little guidance will help you to enjoy your academic life as well as the dating game. The following pointers can act as your guide.

•    The most important consideration is to avoid rushing home anytime you find yourself in a bad place. Make as many friends as you can as this will help you to adapt well. Good college relationships can make your life in college exciting.

•    Ensure that you set boundaries between you and your roommates. Many students live in shared accommodation options for most part of their college life. Your accommodation in college functions like your home as it is the one place you can relax and have time out. Setting your boundaries thus makes your academic and dating life easier.

•    College also presents a good opportunity for building your future, making friends and even dating. So, chill out and begin hanging out with your friends more often. This will give you a chance to develop college relationships with your fellow students. Besides, being social gives you a chance to be part of a larger social circle - allowing you to see people you could be interested in more often.

•    College career requires you to be serious with your studies. If you want a successful college life, keep it really simple and casual at all times. Invite someone you like to hang out with you without putting too much pressure on them. Even if you have all the time on earth or really like someone, avoid showing up at their classroom after each class with the aim of hooking up. Otherwise, it will be a recipe for awkwardness.

•    If you are dating in college, whether for short or long term basis, do not rush into the whole dating scene. Take time to determine who is compatible with you. Some of the places you can meet a potential date include booster clubs, tutoring groups, drama clubs, sporting events, alumni associations, libraries and more.
